Pizza oven canopy
Lighting
One row of John's Philips Hue Flux UltraBright strip, cut to about 2 m, in a channel with a frosted cover near the front edge. On the same Hue zone as the skylight strips.
Decided (John, 12 Oct 2026). The indoor Philips Hue Flux UltraBright, one row about 2 m long, in a recessed channel with a frosted cover. It joins the same Hue zone and controls as the strips in the skylight strips on the Bondor roof, so there is no separate switch or dimmer.
The strip. Hue Flux 3 m UltraBright: 2900 lumens over the 3 m, white and colour, 14.5 wide and 6 high, with a plug-in power supply. It cuts every 165, so twelve sections is 1980, which fits inside the 2100 canopy. About a metre is left over.
Where it goes. In the timber-look battens, roughly 200 back from the front edge, so it lights the bench and the oven mouth. The recess drawn is 34 wide and 20 deep, enough for the strip and its cover.
It is an indoor strip, used outside under cover. John chose it knowing that. It is out of the rain but in damp air, above the oven's steam and heat, so it may not last as long as it would inside. The covered channel is its protection.
Power from the roof space (John, 12 Oct 2026). A power point in the roof space behind this wall, more towards the main house, near the Velux windows. The Hue supply plugs in there in the dry and its low-voltage lead comes through the wall into the back of the canopy.
Distance. How far that point is from the canopy has not been measured. If it is further than the strip's own lead, it needs Hue's extension lead or the power point moved closer.
What that changes. If the lead comes through the wall at the top, the 25 conduit drawn in the footing and up the column is no longer needed for the light. That is one less thing to do before the paving, but it must be settled before the footing is poured, and the hole through the cladding has to be sealed and sit under the apron flashing.
Looked at and dropped. There is no outdoor UltraBright. The outdoor Flux comes only as a fixed 5 m that cannot be cut or joined; running it round three sides was considered and John's verdict was that it is too hard.
Not on the drawings yet. The plans still say a generic warm-white LED strip with a driver and a switch by the electrician.

“for the lighting i'd probably use one of my Philips hue ultra-bright striplights -- that way it can be added to the same zone and controls as the striplights in the skylight strips on the bondor roof.”

“yeah all sounds too hard I think -- maybe just the indoor version at 2M is the better option”
To confirm or price
- Electrician: a power point in the roof space near the Velux windows, and the measured run from there to the strip.
- Harry: keep or drop the conduit in the footing, decided before the pour.
- Which channel and frosted cover: a standard aluminium LED profile that takes a 14.5 wide strip.
- Does the Hue bridge reach the canopy, or does the strip need another Hue light nearby to relay the signal?
- The listing John sent ships from Germany with a European plug (a buyer's review). Buy the Australian one or allow for an adaptor.
